Helen Keller, an avid civil rights activist known for being deaf and blind, faces prejudice from the public, her family, and even herself.
Whirlpool is based on the true story of Helen Keller's fight for civil rights in her adult life despite significant prejudice. Helen's views and actions were considered radical by mainstream culture of early 20th Century America. As a result, she was challenged and held under surveillance by government, patronised by the press, and managed by her family and those closest to her.
Filmed using Helen's own descriptions of her day to day world, Whirlpool is not a conventional period drama.
